Introducing Darby and Gerald, my Crochet St. Patrick’s Day Cat and Rainbow Bird Amigurumi pattern! This is my fifth holiday cat pattern! Darby is now joining my Scarecrow, Halloween Witch, Valentine, and Winter Cat collection.
This was a fun pattern to make. I try to crochet a holiday decoration for each holiday of the year and this year Darby and Gerald were born! I think my favorite thing about Darby is his gorgeous gold eyes! You can find them at 6060 on Etsy. Her animal eyes are always amazing!! The nose and Gerald’s eyes also came from her shop.
For this pattern, I used a 4.25 mm hook. Any worsted weight yarns in these colors pictured will work. For specifics, I used Loops & Threads Impeccable in kelly green for Darby’s body. For his hat and for the green in Gerald, I used Red Heart Super Saver in spring green. Darby’s collar and the orange in Gerald is Red Heart Super Saver in orange. The black in Darby’s hat is also Red Heart Super Saver. The yellow, blue, and red in Gerald are Red Heart Super Saver. The purple is Red Heart Soft in lilac. I used a small amount of orange embroidery floss for Gerald’s beak.
Because the purple in the rainbow ends up on the bottom of the bird, I decided to make wings for him! I think they came out pretty cute.

I haven’t made one yet, I plan to, but I seriously adore these cat and bird patterns, I would really love to see one for every holiday if you’ve ever considered it! I have a few friends that will want one when I make the Halloween versions. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! I am currently working on a new Valentine cat at the moment!
